Neato! How’d they do that?

My (now ex) husband and I are both little people; I’m 4 feet and he’s 4 ½ feet tall. So we’re accustomed to stares, pointing, and even giggles at our short stature. We take them in stride, and not always, but often we find humor in those situations. One particular reaction was unforgettable. Shortly after we were married, we were shopping at a mall. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a little boy holding his dad’s hand as they glided up the escalator to the next floor. As he pointed in our direction, I heard a high-pitched, but excitedly loud voice say, “Neato! How’d they do that?!” Apparently he thought it was awesome that we (in his mind) somehow kept ourselves from growing any taller. Of course, we got a good laugh. Priceless.
