“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NIV)
Ah, summer! The time when we can make a definite effort to schedule quality time with our loved ones. Beach trips, camping adventures, sightseeing, visits with friends and relatives. Time to escape the stress of careers, education, and the everyday routine to something new, exciting, and relaxing. As we seek out this much-needed relaxation and refreshment for our well-being, let’s not forget to take God on our vacations and keep Him in our minds and hearts.
Whether we’re embarking on a new adventure or seeking rest for our weary bodies, let us invite and include Jesus in our daily plans. He is our ultimate source of peace and rest. Incorporating Him into our vacation opens us up to a deeper sense of rest and refreshment that surpasses any physical or worldly experience.
Vacations are often seen as an escape from the pressures of the day-to-day routines of work and school. We seek solace in picturesque locations, seeking to unwind from stress and find a temporary respite. While vacations can indeed provide a change of scenery, true rest and refreshment come from aligning our hearts with the loving presence of Jesus.
Incorporating Jesus into our daily plans during vacation involves intentional actions. Begin your day with a prayer, expressing gratitude for this opportunity and asking for His guidance throughout the day. Seek moments of solitude and reflection, and take the time to appreciate the little and big wonders God has placed all around us…oceans, mountains, intricate flowers, other creatures, the stars in the sky. Engage in conversations with loved ones about your faith and God’s blessings in your life.
As we experience the fun and relaxation of vacation, let us remember that Jesus wants to be there with us. Only He has the power to offer us true and complete rest, not just from physical weariness but from the burdens of our hearts and minds. Allow His peace to fill your soul and renew your heart and mind. Heavenly Father, I invite Your presence into every aspect of my vacation as my favored guest. Help me to remember that true rest and refreshment come from you. Help me to see the beauty of your creation and be reminded of your constant love and care for me. Refresh my heart and soul in these times of rest and refreshment and grant me peace. Use me to love and encourage whomever you place in my path. May I share your peace, hope, and joy by shining with your love. In your holy name, Amen.
